Happy Pi Day
by dothemath intomorrow is march 14 (3.14), so its known as pi day, to honour the all-important constant.. incidentally, the bible has been criticized by mathematicians because the scriptures give a very poor value of pi.. the scripture is based on 1kings 7: 23 and reads as follows:.
"and he proceeded to make the molten sea ten cubits from its one brim to its other brim, circular all around; and its height was five cubits, and it took a line of thirty cubits to circle all around it".
now that shape is actually mathematically impossible to construct, because if the diameter is 10 cubits, the circumference would have to be 31.4159 cubits.

Only a few days ago I was entirely lost and without hope the rug was pulled out from under me
by elderess inonly a few days ago i was walking around the house in a mindless wander thinking if i needed to seek professional help.
then i got the courage to seek the comfort of complete strangers on the internet and found a world of support here on this website.
thank you simon and whoever else has made this website possible.

So happy for you, your experience is similar to ours. My husband was an elder, very popular speaker and former pioneer/need greater. We were looked up to in the congregation. I could not cope with the cognitive dissonance and depression being in the org caused. I was 46 when I finally took the bull by the horns and told my husband I just could not do it anymore. He asked for a week to make up his mind what he would do, I was very worried as I knew it would be the end of our marriage if he stayed in the Jw's. After a week he resigned as an elder, told them we would not be back and not to try and contact us or ask for any reason why. He walked out after shaking the elders hands and handing in his khall keys. Our marriage and relationship with our children has never been better.
All the best to you, try to take it slow and avoid discussing with anyone your reasons. Just enjoy your freedom and go easy on your children, they will be bewildered and frightened by your decision at first.
Much love Chicken little

The foreign language groups have been active in Denmark since the end of the 70's, picking up momentum in the 1990's. Asylum seeker camps have always been high priority going back to the 90's. Sadly many joined the groups because they hoped it would help their cases. Often they were badly disappointed and I know of many cases were their case was poorly handled by a Jw lawyer representing them. I know of a suicide attempt by one asylum seeker who was studying with her sons for years. (the process was extremely slow back then and some were in these camps for years. The Jw's would study with children too, easy hours, captive audience.) -

I lied to the elders
by atacrossroads ini stopped attending meetings all together in january 2015. before that my attendance was irregular at best.
my husband followed suit a few months ago after months of research, agony, and indecision on his part.
from the very beginning i laid low and did not share with anyone what i found out about the witnesses because i did not want to be df'd.

You had to have so much courage (and anger) to be able to stand up to those men. Well done.
My husband went to visit a young sister who was inactive and separated from her husband. She was being hounded by elders, they would come to her door and demand to know if she was sleeping with someone. Her ex was well connected with high ups in the org and he wanted to get a divorce and needed her to be the guilty one, he just beat her up and got drunk so that did not count.
My husband used to be an elder and we left the org some years before so he went round and told her to tell the elders to get lost and never set their foot near her door again or she would call the police. Like you did, you take away any power they think they have over you. I would have loved to hear what they said to each other when they left your house. Keep strong, hope your family come round at some point.

My cat died suddenly!
by Fisherman ini did not realize that they were symptoms that something was wrong with my cat -but i did notice that my cat was breathing a little differently for a period of about a few days.
i also noticed prior and after to that, that on occasion, my cat would cry at the litter box, but that was a very seldom event.. anyway, about a week ago i noticed the symptom that my very loved cat was breathing heavy.
so i called a taxi and i was going to rush him to emergency room for cats.

So sorry to hear you have lost your cherished pet, it is also a terrible shock to see him die before your eyes and you can do nothing to help. Hope your memories will be a comfort. Many people who do not have pets find it hard to understand just how attached we become and how awful it is to lose them. -

Here in Scandinavia there are many ex Jws who have an interest in art and music. We have also a few media personalities who are ex jws. We were in a pretty laid back english congregation that was the original start up cong back in the 70's for all the foreign language groups. We had poets, artists and ex professional musicians.
It was interesting back in the 80's and the dress style was so cool, pioneer brothers with old army shoulder bags and parker coats for service (it is cold here in the winter). Sisters with very avant garde hairstyles and dress, knew some with nose piercing back in the 90's. All that slowly changed as the groups became congregations and conformed to the norm.
Some of the brothers have art galleries and some of the exjws do too. These days we have seen some jws become models working in europe/bloggers etc. It is a changing world once again but many keep it quiet.
There are two camps the really open minded and the closed. They both look down on each other and yet still seem to go along with all the jw propaganda, at least on the surface.
We had a brother who has sadly died, he was a character and a half, great artist, sailor, ran away to sea at 14. Fantastic cook, his get togethers were fantastic sitting around a long wobbly table surrounded by scores of canvasses full of colour and shapes/cubism or in the style of Georgia O' Keeffe. He would laugh with his big belly shaking when I asked about a picture if it was for sale. He called himself an art prostitute, he would paint anything anyone wanted he said.
Strangely the painting I bought, a very big oil painting cubism style, he kept photos of on his personal web page, I bought it over 27 years ago so it was touching to see it meant that much to him. I look at it every day and still love it. So yes we had different types. In London where my husband grew up jazz was the secret pass time for some of the elders in our congregation. Some played in a small band in pubs around S.E. London, again only those who were in the know found out.
Glad to hear you still have your appreciation intact, as for me without literature I would have not survived my youth.
Kind regards
Chicken little ( I will send you a picture of my painting if you would like to see it in a pm)
